'Besmette Stad' is a multimedia project created by deBuren, featuring a diverse group of Flemish and Dutch artists who respond artistically to the challenges posed by the coronavirus crisis. This project takes inspiration from 'De Bezette Stad,' a renowned poetry collection by Flemish writer Paul van Ostaijen, which reflects on the First World War.

During the initial lockdown in 2020, I had the opportunity to create all the illustrations for 'Besmette Stad.' Drawing inspiration from a city that seemed motionless yet still vibrant, I witnessed illuminated rooms in various colors shining from apartment buildings as I strolled through the city in the evenings. I also observed neighbors enjoying aperitifs together while maintaining a safe distance. These moments of brightness and resilience are captured within my art work.

My illustrations are used for websites, posters, book covers and a big mural.
